Moody's 1975 book Life After Life compiled 150 NDE accounts, naming shared elements — OBE, tunnel, light, life review — for the first time. Though not a controlled study, it launched a generation of systematic research and made NDEs a topic of scientific inquiry. He later developed "shared death experiences" as a distinct phenomenon.
